At the event’s press launch on July 24, 2017, Mr. Fernando Rivera stated that,  "it is indeed a pleasure to have the Barbados Port Inc and the Shipping Association of Barbados host our 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM), conference and exhibition here in beautiful Bridgetown, Barbados.    This will be the sixth time that AGM will be hosted in Barbados and we look forward to meaningful deliberations in addition to excellent networking opportunities which will be made possible through the social activities being planned by our hosts."

The joint conference and exhibition will optimize networking opportunities for delegates. The participants, comprising of CSA members, industry suppliers, service providers and observers, are expected from more than 20 countries from across the Caribbean as well as North, Central and South America and Europe.

As is customary the insightful business agenda will include discussions on the future of the industry, environmental protection advocacy, compliance and regulatory topics. This is complemented by an exciting spouses’ programme and nightly cultural activities.   Time has been set aside throughout the three-day event for networking activities, allowing participants to initiate contact with potential partners.

Day one of the conference will commence with an opening ceremony. Following this, business meetings involving government officials and business leaders, who have endorsed the excellent work of the CSA, will be hosted. The day will then conclude with personnel addressing issues related to the development of the regional maritime sector.

On days two and three, the conference will return to presentations by international and regional maritime sector leaders. This will allow delegates a chance to hear the most up to date information on various industry trends and concerns. This will include topics such as port & cyber security, port privatisation, technology, the growing presence and influence of mega-carriers and liner consolidations, and the resultant fierce competition among ports.

The 47th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition will end with the CSA's annual gala banquet and awards. This stellar event will be highlighted by the announcement of the winners of the annual Caribbean Port Awards including Port of the Year.
