KWL2016-01Following a highly productive week of discussion and networking the Caribbean Shipping Association’s (CSA’s) 46TH AGM, Exhibition & Conference ended with a spectacular awards gala held in the ballroom of the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, Trinidad on October 19, 2016. The sophisticated theme of the event which saw most of the 370 delegates donning masks, provided an elegant backdrop for the announcement of the annual CSA Port Awards.

Kingston Wharves Limited emerged the big winner, taking the coveted Port of the Year Award to resounding acclaim from fellow members of the association, having earned the nod from the regional judges as the Best Multipurpose Port in the hemisphere.

Last year’s AGM hosts Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Cartagena (SPRC) won the award for Best Container Port. DP World Caucedo of the Dominican Republic took the prizes for Growth & Development as well as Environment & Safety. Nassau Container Port Limited, Bahamas won the Dependability & Flexibility Award. Guadeloupe’s Grand Port Maritime took the award for Efficiency and Productivity.

Each year, the CSA’s Port Awards Committee calls for submissions in this prestigious competition, after which it compares the performance of participating ports in the areas of dependability and flexibility, efficiency and productivity, growth and development, security, health, environment and safety.

From the inception of this competition in 1987, the CSA’s Port Awards Competition has served as a great driving force for regional ports and terminal operators, encouraging and stimulating the development of best practices through the recognition of the outstanding performance of ports in key areas.

This event brought the curtains down in a spectacular manner, with widespread praise for the high calibre of the social events held by AGM hosts, the Shipping Association of Trinidad and Tobago, through President Rhett Chee Ping and his team.
