The Shipping Association of Barbados (SAB) was created in 1980 and began operations in 1981. The functioning body is The Committee of Management (COM), a seven-person elected body made up of representatives of the General Membership. The SAB seeks, among other things, to provide consultation between members; to ascertain their views on matters of common interest; to collect and circulate statistical and other information relating to the Shipping Industry; and to co-operate with or be a member of any organization, either national or international, whose objectives are consistent with those of the SAB.
To achieve its objectives, the SAB maintains a secretariat in Bridgetown to provide administrative support for the activities of the Committee of Management, the associations managing body. As a Registered Trade Union, the SAB is staffed and headed by a Secretary/Treasurer.
